I Will Soon Own a Wii U!

I was always planning on owning a Wii U but the question was always “when?” Will it be when Smash comes out(the latest I’d possibly get a Wii U) or will there be a game that can convince me to buy it before Smash? It looks like Nintendo has convinced me to get it earlier then I originally intended with their Mario Kart 8 bundle. Doesn’t hurt that I had $200 worth of gift cards at Best Buy so I only ended up spending $158. Which is a pretty solid deal, Now I’ll have a Wii U, Wii mote plus controller, a wheel(which I couldn’t care less about), Mario Kart 8 and also a digital copy of Pikman(ew, Nintendo digital. Whatever, it’s free!) 3! It’s a good thing that Mario Kart 8 is actually a physical disc though because if it was a code for the eshop I would’ve just kept waiting. Until Nintendo makes content tied to accounts instead of systems I flat-out refuse to buy anything on the eShop, even if its only 1 dollar. One issue I might have with Mario Kart 8 though is the cast!! Oh please God tell me there are still hidden characters, where’s my Dry Bowser and & Dry Bones!? But besides that I’m really looking forward to May 30th. Maybe after a few weeks I’ll pick up a pro controller and also Super Mario 3D World.

Games I Want to See in E3

I haven’t posted anything in a while because in all honesty nothing interesting has been going on in my life(social and gaming). I have playing Smite recently, might post an impression on that in a week or two. But besides April is ending pretty soon which means E3 is 1 month closer(when is it, mid June?) so I figured I’d make a short list of games I’d like to see during E3. Now obviously I want to see new IPs but since I can’t predict them this list is mostly stuff we know of or exist in some shape or form, also if anyone is reading this and remembers the games I wanted to see at E3 2013 knows the two obvious games that’ll be on this list so I’ll just get those out-of-the-way now.

Fallout 4

God dammit Bethesda, I know you’re making the freaking game, let us see it already! Also a few other notes, NO XBOX EXCLUSIVE DLC! & no cross gen, only current gen systems please. I’m hoping the gameplay improves on Fallout New Vegas instead of going on Fallout 3(which was the one developed by Bethesda). Few other things I want to see on Fallout 4 is a better third person camera, I like to see my character, after all, what’s the point of having a customized character if I can’t even see him/her, hell, I can’t even see their feet. Which is another thing I hope Fallout 4 has, letting me see my character’s body when I look down. There are some mods that already do this on PC but it would be nice to have that in there day one. Also no dumbing down, please. Skyrim was really shallow because it was dumb downed to appeal to casuals. It’s so bad in fact that personally I find the vanilla gameplay absolutely unplayable, it’s extremely boring.

Super Smash Bros 4

Obvious is obvious. This is the game that will make me purchase a Wii U. I want this game to be playable at E3, which will most likely happened for at least the 3DS version since that version comes out in the Summer(fingers crossed that it’s no later than mid July).  Also for the love of god give me my Mewtwo! And like I’ve mention in my previous post I still wan’t to see Ridley just to have someone who’s the complete opposite of Little Mac(Huge and is only good in the air). Now with the two obvious ones out the way lets start with games I haven’t mentioned before.  Continue reading

Top 3 Games I Saw at E3

The last two years of E3 have been pretty underwhelming, I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. However, with new consoles coming to us later this year we got to see plenty of new games, and even new IPs. Some games were pretty boring(I’m looking at you, Ryse) but a lot other games look very impressive. One thing I noticed with a lot of next-gen games is that a lot seem to be going open world. Something I welcome with open arms, I love open world games, hopefully these games are packed with content, and easter eggs as well. For once in a long time I enjoyed a majority of the games, like at least 8 out of every 10; I was very impressed. There were three games that stuck out to me the most though, these three are presented in no particular order. Continue reading

Super Smash Bros Wii U Mario Vs. Mega Man

Some gameplay that I found on a forum. It looks like Mario is keeping that shitty FLOOD move from Brawl. Lets hope its actually useful this time around. The game is looking absolutely gorgeous, I thought the art direction in Brawl was amazing but this takes the cake, I mean sure it isn’t as detailed as Brawl, but HD man, and the lighting is stunning.

Nintendo E3 Direct Conference Impressions

Nintendo’s new strategy of skipping E3 and only doing a Direct that only they’re hosting worked out awful. It lagged through all the good stuff but played perfectly fine for the garbage like the Wii Fit and stuff. Huge Pokemon fan so I was very excited to see a new type revealed, and also older Pokemons are getting retyped to Fairy as well so that’s awesome. I didn’t get to see a lot of the petting stuff but that looks like something kids would love, I couldn’t care less for that though. I was disappointed that Retro’s next game is Donkey Kong, I was hoping for a new IP or something, didn’t a Donkey Kong port just happened like last month? Also the new 3D Mario game is very disappointing. When I first saw it I assumed it was a 3DS game, instead it’s for the Wii U. It looks fun but I don’t think it belongs on the Wii U, I wanted to see a more open Mario game like Galaxy and 64, not a sequel to a 3DS game.

The impression I get from the Wii U is that its basically a more expensive 3DS that lacks the portable advantage of the 3DS. The only game that really wowed me was obviously Smash Bros. Oh my god, the beauty. Finally Smash in HD, hopefully its playable at E3 and we get to see some gameplay clips. I was very surprised by Mega Man, that was a awesome surprise. I also loved that wrestling ring stage they showed, that was fucking awesome. It looks like they teased the return of boss battles at the end as well when they showed Mega Man getting ready to fight Yellow Devil. The Direct didn’t make me feel like I’m missing anything good on the Wii U, the good stuff is coming in 2014 so I don’t need it any time soon. Plus, there was no price drop, the Wii U is only $50 more expensive then the ps4. Speaking of that I just remembered that Sony didn’t announce a price drop for the Vita. Overall the show felt like it played it safe, too safe.

Edit: A new character was announced for Smash Bros… Wii Fit Trainer… No, seriously… What a fucking waste, hopefully shes the only “joke” character and they’re just getting that crappy character out the way.

What I Want to see in E3

Well folks, E3 is tomorrow and many of us are excited and worried about it. Will Sony fuck up as badly as Microsoft did? Hopefully not. Will Microsoft’s games outweigh their anti consumer tactics? Not in a million years, they can go on stage and say Fallout 4 will be exclusive to XB1 forever and I’d still tell ’em to fuck off. Also we’ll finally get our first glimpse at the next installment of Smash Bros, hopefully we also see the 3DS version as well which the the creator of Smash Bros has said he wanted to add RPG elements to that version to make it feel more personal so I’m be interested to see how that turns out. So, without further adieu here are the things I want to see at E3:

1. Sony doesn’t do some bullshit anti consumer tactics. – Do I really have to explain? If they do that I guess the only next-gen console I’ll own will be a Wii U

2. Pokemon Snap 2 – Seriously, with the Wii Pad? come on, it just makes far too much sense to not be in development.

3. Vita games – Not ports, not spin offs. Original games(like Gravity Rush) or new installments(like how Birth by Sleep is a main entry in the KH series.) I still don’t understand why Sony completely ignored the Vita last year, hopefully they don’t do the same this year. Also let’s hope they announce a hefty price drop and some bundles, It would be nice if the Vita picked up some steam so more 3rd party publishers jumped on board.

4. PS4 doesn’t charge to play online. – I don’t mind if that extra stuff is behind a pay wall but I shouldn’t have to pay to use my router.

5. Fallout 4 – Please not a modified Fallout 3 engine like what Skyrim used. Please, use a brand new stable engine that is also able to accomplish much more. Don’t make modders do your job.
Also none of the Microsoft exclusive shit, fuck that crap.
6. Steam Workshop like feature on consoles. – Seriously, mods are the fucking best. One of my top 3 favorite features about gaming on PC. I don’t know how it’ll work, but Sony might be able to do it with Steam’s own workshop. After all, we have seen steam integrated on the PS3 with Portal 2 so it might be possible, or so I assume.

7. New 3DS model with a built-in 2nd analog nub. – Why this wasn’t part of the original design and has to be sold as a separate accessory is beyond me. Touch screen cannot substitute a second analog nub.

8. A reason to own a Wii U. – I played a Wii U this weekend. It was garbage. I didn’t like it, games sucked(I played NintendoLand, ZombiU, and New Super Mario Bros.), UI was also trash, and there doesn’t appear to be anything of interest coming out anytime soon with the exception of Smash Bros, which leads me to the next thing.

9. Mewtwo In Smash Bros. – Why would you take him out in the first place? :/ Whats next, going to replace Lucario with Zoroark or whatever Pokemon will replace Zoroark in the next Pokemon gen? Just give me the original badass back, please. Give him some actual good moves while you’re at it.

10. New IPs. – Sure sequels are great, but I also love some new IPs as well, I’m sure we all feel the same way about that.

Tomorrow I’ll post my impressions of the first day of E3, I might post different ones for each show or I might just do one at the end of the day and lump them all into one post depending how motivated I am. 🙂 Until tomorrow, friends.

Nintendo Direct was BORING!

My god what a complete waste of time. No wonder people say the WiiU is in trouble. They announced what, like 2 or 3 new games and we only saw 1 of them? If that’s the best Nintendo has to offer this year I feel bad for them. I have no doubt in my mind that next year it’ll be better with Zelda and Mario, people eat that up, but boy was I disappointed. First time I get to watch ND live and it just had to be the one dedicated to the Wii U. Hopefully they’re E3 Nintendo Direct is better than what they showed today. Really disappointed in them, man. Glad I didn’t buy a Wii U when I had the chance, really dodged a bullet there.

A Game I Totally Forgot About

Yesterday while spending some time with the family I went into a Gamestop and started glancing around. I saw some of the typical games that I want but patiently wait for a price drop(Catherine, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, Persona 4 Golden, etc.) but while looking I noticed some games that I really wanted to play but was waiting for a price drop and when it did finally drop, I just forgot about it completely. One that really caught my eye was Rock Band 3, a franchise that I always had my eyes on but never got to it simply for 1 reason: the goddamn cost it takes to get the full experience.

When I saw the drums I thought to myself “holy shit, I totally need this game,” but my god does it cost an arm and a leg simply for plastic that is only good for 1 game(not to mention the space it takes.) Anyway, Rock Band 3 was hands down the one that I really wanted to get because of the keyboard. But like I said earlier, I wasn’t about to spend like +$120 on a single game, so I never got to it. Plus, it didn’t help that I didn’t have any friends who played it so it would pretty much only be me playing with random people online which is what I normally do but when I play co-op games I prefer to play them with people I actually know. Unfortunetly the drums are still way too expensive and with this console generation ending I feel that I’ll never get a chance to try this game out. It’s too bad I don’t got the cash to be throwing around to get the instruments, I bet this game is a lot of fun.

Its Hard to Program!

One of the things I tried to do over the spring break was to try and do something a little more productive with my time and try to learn some super easy basic programing using the Unity engine. Unsurprisingly, it proved to be a much harder task than I originally thought. I couldn’t even get a my crappy little car to respawn by pressing a key. But I guess thats to be expected since i literally have no knowledge of programing whatsoever.

Regardless, I wont quit! Like Parappa would say, I gotta believe!! I’ll just have to put my youtube Unity engine tutorials in the back burner since I’m back in school.  Most likely I’ll give it another  go during the summer, or during a weekend where I dont have so much homework.

Scribblenauts Unlimited Review

Maxwell has been intrusted with a very powerful notebook that can bring anything he writes in it to life, from a small fish to a giant griffin. If you played the original you know what the goal of the game is, if you haven’t your given several tasks from NPCs and you must help them with your all mighty notebook. The game offers many themed locations to choose from ranging from a farm, to an alien planet.

This time around there is also a story as well, a man curses Maxwell’s sister for being rude, the only way to break the curse is by collecting starites, which are awarded by doing good deeds. so it becomes a race against time as our hero must collect 50 before Maxwell’s sister is completely turned to stone. The story is very light and practically non existent till the end but the animation is very nice.

Which brings me to my next point, Scribblenauts Unlimited is an absolutely beautiful game, everything has been redone to HD  sprites and its stunning. A new feature in the game is the ability to create your own objects, though it’s quite underdeveloped as there isn’t much you can do with it.

While the game is quite easy overall, there are indeed some tricky starites to collect which had me sitting there trying to find a way to solve some puzzles. There is also plenty of replay value as there is more than 100 starites to collect, which by the way some are actually hidden, and you could also reset each world and solve puzzles in different manners as well.

Though there are a few issues with the games notebook ability, which is understandable for a game with such ambition. I often found myself not able to create exactly what I wanted because the game simply had no idea what I wanted(which might be my fault) or it simply just wasn’t possible at all. Overall, I’d highly recommend the game, its great and offers a lot of replay value and the games strength very much outweighs its weaknesses.
