Update on Life

Truthfully nothing interesting has been going on in my life lately(social wise), shocking, I know. BUT, my gaming life has been pretty sweet. I’ve finally finish The Witcher 2, my first playthrough was on Iorveth’s side. Holy shit, the first two acts in the game were LOOOOOOONG. I didn’t even know the game was split up in 3 acts until on my 12th hour of gameplay I finished the first act. All I thought to myself was “da fuck!? that was all one act, how many freaking acts are in the game!?” Not that I dislike long games, it’s just that it got me off guard.I’ll go back soon for another playthrough on Roche’s side. This time I’ll play on normal. Yea, that’s right. I played on easy; game is super hard. šŸ˜›

Also, I’ve pre-ordered GTA5 on psn. Normally I’m highly against pre-ordering/purchasing retail games on psn because they’re marked full price, but I made an exception this ONE time because both my brother and I would like to play GTA Online together. Red Dead Redemption was my favorite multiplayer game this gen, so if GTA is even half as good as that I’d be more than happy, though I’m sure it’ll be way better.

Um, let’s see… I also bought Spelunky today on PSN. game is hard as balls. Still haven’t gotten past 1-3. Its is really fun though; and I’m very shocked but I think I actually like how the game looks more on the Vita than I do on the PS3. I know, weird, right?

AAAAANNNNNND lastly, tonight is my final day of Summer. Tomorrow I have to wake up early for my first day of school. Super disappointed when I found out I started school so early. Every school I’ve ever been to has always started on Sept. 9, Y U START SO EARLY, BROOKLYN COLLEGE!? So yea, I’ll make a new post tomorrow or something on how my first day back goes. By the way, this is a new school, so I got to make friends all over again, what a drag. >_>

Last of Us Demo Impression

The Last of Us demo was finally unlocked today, though a bit later than it was supposed to, no problem for me though since I just decided to play some God of War: Ascension multiplayer for an hour assuming it would get fixed by then(which it did). The demo downloads very quickly, first its the launcher, then it downloads the actual demo once the launcher is complete. Once I got into the game the very first thing I noticed was the resemblance to the Uncharted series, I don’t know if Joel’s animations are brand new or if he’s using the one Naughty Dog used for Drake but they both look like they share the same ones, or at the very least they share some. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, the animations from Uncharted are very good. Luckily for us though that appears to be the only thing both game share in common.

The demo’s setting was a pretty dark and moody one, it reminded me of some areas in Fallout 3. You can clearly tell that shit has went down in the area, buildings collapsed, gaping holes all over the place, nature slowly but surely reclaiming the area. It’s very beautiful. Unlike Uncharted, this is more or less a stealth game. See, supplies are limited, there is no regenerating health, plus there is an enemy known as Clickers(more on them a bit later) who can kill you in one hit. Another thing that is also interesting is that ammo is very scarce so you’ll want to be very careful with it, also you must take into consideration the sound’s the gun makes as well because it WILL alert other enemies. This is obviously out of Naughty Dog’s comfort zone and even if the game doesn’t sound appealing to you(I recommend you give it a try though, ND is unarguably one of the best developers of this generation), at the very least you got to give them credit for trying something they’ve never done before.

For you newbies the game also has an option that lets Joel see through walls when standing still to help you out, don’t fret though you hardcore gamers, this option can be turned off completely, though if you plan on not using it I recommend you play with some really good headphones. The demo was fun and definitely made me a bit excited for the game, the problem with it though was that it was far too short. It can be completed in like what, 15 minutes? The Clicker’s also disappointed me. You only meet two in the demo and one is handled through QTE(seriously, fuck the person who thought of QTE, laziest mechanic in gaming), you only get to handle one of them your way. One thing I really like about the Clickers though is that they’re blind so they won’t be able to see you, the way they find you is by listening, so to distract them you throw bricks and bottles around to divert their attention somewhere else(this is possible with all the enemies). There wasn’t much to fight in the demo unfortunately, as a matter a fact, there were only like 8 enemies. It’s a demo though so whatever. All I’m saying is that if you plan on buying/renting GoW:A only for the demo don’t even bother, if you do that, buy it for God of War, not the demo or else you’ll feel disappointed.

The Last of Us releases June 13, 2013 in the US, so be sure to check it out if you’re interested.

Sonic Generations Short Review

Sonic Generations tries to do two things, please old school 2D Sonic fans and also appeal to 3D Sonic fans. Personally, I much prefer 3D Sonic as it has a much stronger emphasis on speed than 2D Sonic, but hey what do I know? The only 2D sonic games I enjoyed were the Sonic Advance series so I guess it isn’t my place to say if 2D sonic is boring or not. But anyway, Both Sonic’s world collide and are broken up so now you must race through nine different worlds to put them back together. each of the world’s has two acts, one for modern Sonic and another for old school sonic, making a total of 18 stages, plus a bunch of challenges that I couldn’t possibly care less about. All the stages are from previous Sonic games so you’ll be visiting Green Hill Zone all up to a stage from Sonic Colors. By the way, City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2 is here with a remix of the original song. Hands down my favorite stage in the entire game.

The music in the game is great, I’m not the hugest Sonic fan so I can’t compare them to their original versions excluding for songs in Sonic Adventure 2 but they all sound really great to me. The visuals are also very stunning which is helped by a good art direction. If you played Sonic Unleashed or Colors you should already know how Modern sonic plays(awesome). Old school sonic plays like as you would expect, although while I wasn’t the biggest fan of the original sonic games, Sega still hasn’t quite perfected his feel. I don’t know how to put it but he still plays a bit off. For example, he’s a bit slippery even when he’s not running at full speed which is quite frustrating. Also the final boss is a huge let down, its poorly implemented and very boring, without spoiling anything all you got to do is hold the dash button the entire fight. Also I beat the game in four hours so there really isn’t much main content. If you’re into challenge levels you’ll most likely finish it in about seven or so hours since even those aren’t all that challenging. If you’re itching for some Sonic I’d recommend this game, although not at its current price since there isn’t all that much content to justify the price, see if you can find it for $5 or something.

Picked Up My Copy of Soul Sacrifice! (Plus life Issues!)

552816_10151621328231803_1090094330_n

Woo, I can’t wait till Thursday so I can finally play it! Playstation is also having a really neat sale for a majority of the characters in Battle Royale. I’m thinking about getting Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker for the PS3 so I can actually use one of its main features. Plus I might be able to actually beat the bosses legit. I’ll admit it, I cheated to beat the bosses, they were hard as hell, felt cheap in my opinion. But, before I actually start to consider it I want to beat kingdom of Amalur first(which is very boring by the way.) Shouldn’t take too long since I’m up to the second to last quest.

Also on an unrelated note, I’ve been having some serious ankle pains for the last month and a half. The doctor originally have me pain killers and told me to come back if the pain continues but me being as lazy as I am, i brushed it off. But it’s gotten really bad lately, even when I’m sitting or something I get a kind of burning sensation near the area. I made an appointment to go see whatever the foot doctor calls themselves, so hopefully it’s nothing too serious, and I can get rid of this pain once and for all.

I Want a PSP Go

For the last couple of days I’ve had this itch for some older games and I’ve been using my hacked PSP 3000 for my emulating needs. But the thing with it is that I have no space for it in my bag and all 4 of my pockets in my jeans are occupied at every moment so I can’t really bring my PSP with me. But that’s when I remembered about Sony’s forgotten little step child– the PSP Go. Sure, it’s completely and utterly useless if you want to play PSP games on it since the best PSP games aren’t on the PS Store(which by the way is also garbage. Sony needs to get their shit together and have the store updated early in the morning at a consistent time, not whenever the hell they feel like it, even Nintendo gets that much right.), but what if it had CFW(Custom Firmware)? It would become portable emulator heaven, that what happens. What makes the PSP Go so good for that is its size, its like the size of an iPod which means its small enough that I can put it in my pocket next to my phone.

So I’ve been looking around for one in the internet and I think I found a fair deal for one(mind you that a brand new Go cost more than a Vita, absolutely ridiculous) but now I’m debating with myself if its worth the purchase, which is about $80. I mean after all, I honest to god regret picking up my Xbox since I don’t really use it much and Microsoft isn’t supporting it anymore neither($400 .down the drain). Well, I’ll think about it for a day or two before I make my final decision. Meanwhile, Its back to Soul Sacrifice.

Soul Sacrifice Demo Out Today

552816_10151621328231803_1090094330_n

Soul Sacrifice’s demo will finally be released today which means I’ll finally make my decsion later today as to wither i want it or not. It looks like another Monster Hunter clone and I’m not really a fan of that franchise, but, at the same time I also did actually enjoy Gods Eater which is also a MH clone. So I’ll have an open mind with this one. Honestly I hope its good because I don’t really have much to play on my Vita at the moment.

Having a Blast With God of War Acension Multiplayer

So I finally beat the singleplayer for GoW:A and it me just say that it was amazing. That final boss, man. Also it was nice not to see Kratos yelling 24/7. Anyway, since i finished that part of the game I’ve been having a blast with the multiplayer part. I’m one of those who doesn’t even like multiplayer shoe horned into every game since I’m mostly a single player kind of guy. But this is one of those rare occasions where it works really well and feels natural. I’ve mostly only played Team Favor of the Gods which is basically team death match mixed in with domination. Though I’ll most likely try out capture the flag later on when i turn my PS3 back on.

… So yea, If you don’t mind, I’ll be returning to Ascension now.

Disgaea 3 Free for PS+ on Vita

Oh boy! One of my favorite rpg franchises has been added to the instant game collection on the Vita, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention is a port of Disgaea 3 on the PS3 but features all previous add ons, including Baryl’s short story arc(which I never got around to play, so I’m very excited to start playing this) which basically makes this the GOTY/Complete edition of the game, if you will.

For those unfamiliar with Disgaea, it’s a strategy rpg, that takes place in the Netherworld, the home place of demons, each game features a new protagonist & supporting cast with ones from previous games making cameos in the newer one. Disgaea 3 features Mao, son of the overlord who is out on a quest to become a hero so he can beat up his dad. why would he want to beat up his dad you ask, well, his dad stepped on his video game console and collection of games of course! As you can imagine the series is quite wacky and is a really good game to boot.

So go on your Vita and make sure you download and start playing Disgaea! And if you only own a PS3, don’t forget that you can still download games on the Vita’s instant game collection and have them on your download list so you can play them whenever you do decided to get a Vita.

3 PSP Games Worth Checking Out

Hey guys, sorry about not posting anything in the last couple of days, had a mid term plus I need to finish up the first part of my transfer application, so I haven’t had much time to play lately(must play more Ni No Kuni!!). Lately I’ve found myself playing some of my old PSP PSN games on the train. So I figured I’d share three of my favorite PSP games that are available one the PSN, note that these are also playable on the Vita as well; which is the system I play them on.

3) Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy

This is a prequel to the original Dissidia and features more characters as well. While the story is quite… confusing, the combat is the true meat of the game. Think of it as the Smash Bros of Final Fantasy, and just like Final Fantasy you can customize your equipment, even your moveset! The only disappointing thing about this game is that Cloud doesn’t have a Zack Fair alternate costume -Zack fanboy-.

2) Gods Eater Burst

god_eater_psp_scan

This game is one of my newer purchases, so far I’m about 25 hours in if i recall correctly. This game is at heart a Monster Hunter competitor; or clone as many like to label it. Now for me I never found much joy out of Monster Hunter, not that it was a bad game. It’s just I’d get bored of playing after a mission or two, but its different with Gods Eater. I guess its because theirs a story, an ultimate goal you can say. Plus, its more action packed. Basically every mission is like fighting one of the bigger baddies that’s in Monster Hunter, which is great.

1) Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days

Without a doubt this is the game I’ve investedĀ  the most hours into on my PSP, the only game that even comes slightly close is the original Disgaea. If you don’t know what this game is about, it’s a strategy RPG with some of the most quirkiest characters I’ve ever seen, which is what keeps me hooked on the series. This game is all about leveling up, you even enter stages in your equipment to level them up as well.Ā  According to my save file I’ve already invested 162 hours into Dark Hero Days, and the game is only $20. Some might not enjoy the grinding, hell, I didn’t like it at first neither but the story really keeps you playing.

Metal Gear Solid: Revengance Demo Impression

mgs

The Metal Gear Solid: Revengance demo was released yesterday for Xbox 360 & the PS3(and very late might I add) and if i had to describe it to you in one word it would be: Spectacular! But lets get its problems out the way first, shall we? For starters, I found parrying to be difficult at first, I didn’t know how to pull it off, but by the boss fight with the chainsaw dog at the end I got the hang of it. Trust me, you MUST learn how to parry or that dog is just a bitch(excuse the pun), it killed me twice before i “got it”. But the more annoying problem was blade mode. Blade mode is when Raiden goes into his free cut mode. The left stick is used to control your direction while the right stick was used to control the direction of the blade. For me it was just painfully awkward to use, but I’m sure by the time the full game is released I’ll eventually get the hang of it, might even go play the demo a couple of times more as well. Also, I’m not too sure about the Xbox version since I played the demo on the PS3 but I did notice frame rate drops when I started cutting too many pieces, nothing too bad but its there.

Raiden controlled amazing and the action was just beyond awesome. It even has some nods to the series with the alert feature as well. Battling the Gekkos and cutting them up in a hundred pieces was beyond satisfying, the game even features weapons as well(the demo contained RPGs and grenades). If you have time i highly recommend downloading the demo and giving it a shot, parrying might be a bit weird but keep trying, it’ll become your best friend once you get the hang of it.
