Games I Want to See in E3

I haven’t posted anything in a while because in all honesty nothing interesting has been going on in my life(social and gaming). I have playing Smite recently, might post an impression on that in a week or two. But besides April is ending pretty soon which means E3 is 1 month closer(when is it, mid June?) so I figured I’d make a short list of games I’d like to see during E3. Now obviously I want to see new IPs but since I can’t predict them this list is mostly stuff we know of or exist in some shape or form, also if anyone is reading this and remembers the games I wanted to see at E3 2013 knows the two obvious games that’ll be on this list so I’ll just get those out-of-the-way now.

Fallout 4

God dammit Bethesda, I know you’re making the freaking game, let us see it already! Also a few other notes, NO XBOX EXCLUSIVE DLC! & no cross gen, only current gen systems please. I’m hoping the gameplay improves on Fallout New Vegas instead of going on Fallout 3(which was the one developed by Bethesda). Few other things I want to see on Fallout 4 is a better third person camera, I like to see my character, after all, what’s the point of having a customized character if I can’t even see him/her, hell, I can’t even see their feet. Which is another thing I hope Fallout 4 has, letting me see my character’s body when I look down. There are some mods that already do this on PC but it would be nice to have that in there day one. Also no dumbing down, please. Skyrim was really shallow because it was dumb downed to appeal to casuals. It’s so bad in fact that personally I find the vanilla gameplay absolutely unplayable, it’s extremely boring.

Super Smash Bros 4

Obvious is obvious. This is the game that will make me purchase a Wii U. I want this game to be playable at E3, which will most likely happened for at least the 3DS version since that version comes out in the Summer(fingers crossed that it’s no later than mid July).  Also for the love of god give me my Mewtwo! And like I’ve mention in my previous post I still wan’t to see Ridley just to have someone who’s the complete opposite of Little Mac(Huge and is only good in the air). Now with the two obvious ones out the way lets start with games I haven’t mentioned before.  Continue reading

I Won a Copy of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag!!

So many of you might not know but Ubisoft had this little competition (http://uplay.ubi.com/en-US/events/next-gen/gifts) where they were giving away free copies of Assassin’s Creed 4 for both XB1 and PS4, season pass for AC4, or Just Dance 4 for PS4 and XB1. I dropped the Assassin’s Creed series after the third one, I was a huge supporter of both the present day story and the historical story. but after the ending of the 3rd which I won’t spoil for anyone out of respect I had to drop the series. The game that was the supposed ending of the trilogy was just so, so bad and felt like(and most likely was) written at the very last second to continue milking the series. Hell, Revelations the game that was leading up to AC3 had more closure. Now I know that AC4 is apparently the best one in the series but I refuse to buy it, sometimes you just got to say no. But then I hear about this Next-Gen prize thing Ubi was doing.

Now last Saturday was the last day to win a game/or season pass, it was also my first time hearing of this competition from lurking in Neogaf(I was perma banned so I can’t post anymore 😦 ) and the last batch of codes were being given out at 8pm, which was about 20 minutes away so I figured, eh why not give it a shot, I’m kind of feeling that next gen drought anyway. Then boom, I won a copy of AC4 for the PS4! I’ve been waiting for my code for almost a week, I started to doubt I won too but I can see my username on the winner list so that cleared up. Unfortunately since I didn’t get the code yet I highly doubt I’ll be playing it anytime soon even once it arrives since school starts Monday. But, if it gets here tomorrow or Monday I’ll try my best to just blow through it before Monday.

My Experience with Playstation 4

First off let me share how I got my PS4, I didn’t pre-order the system in time so they were all sold out. Thursday, the day before it came out Spike was airing a PlayStation 4 launch event with “jaw dropping” announcements.(spoiler alert: all announcements were pretty lame, also Infamous was quietly delayed to March) After the event I went I logged onto Amazon to check on my ps4 game orders(they had a buy 2 get 1 free deal, I picked up Knack, Killzone and Need for Speed which I’m still waiting on) and then I just went to look up the PS4 just to be saddened that I won’t be getting one anytime soon and to my surprise, they had the system in stock, I couldn’t believe my eyes but I immediately ordered one, if it was an error and it gets cancelled, eh I was expecting that, but if it actually goes through…. happy day! And it did go through, so my ps4 arrived here on Saturday, the day after its launch, and not only did I get the system but I also got the day one edition as well(the one that contains $10 psn credit, 30 day music unlimited trial & 30 day ps+ trial!

Now since I don’t have Amazon Prime & I wasn’t expecting to get a ps4 so soon I didn’t have my games yet, they arrived the following week on Tuesday, so what I mostly played during Saturday to Monday were free to play games, Resogun & revisiting Sound Shapes. I also had Call of Duty Ghost, the free $10 were used to upgrade the ps3 copy to the ps4 version. But, I’m not a fan Call of Duty, it was for my brother, according to him Ghost is the weakest CoD game so he didn’t play it much. The game I ended up playing the most was Warframe and Resogun though. Even after I got my games most of my time still goes to Warframe. I’m pretty sure that game has some kind of story but I have no idea what it is. The reason I play it so much is because it’s practically the only game my friends and I can agree to play together. Hell, sometimes I don’t even know what the objective is, I just keep walking forward, killing aliens and cracking some jokes. Oh, and before I forget, the Dualshock 4 is just pure sexy. it only has one flaw, the d-pad isn’t as good as the Vita’s. Personally I think they should have just gave the DS4 the exact same one just a bit bigger, but it’s still a good d-pad. Currently the ps4 isn’t in my room(even though I paid for it :P) for two reasons: one, I don’t have a wired connection so I have to use wi-fi, which normally isn’t a problem since everything in my room uses wi-fi but for some reason the wi-fi on the ps4 is just absolute trash. it took more than an hour to download a 350MB file. and two, with the Fall semester almost coming to an end I’ve been receiving a lot of work to do so I have almost no time to play anyway. However when I do have time to play, my brother is normally sleeping so I can’t play the ps4, oh wait! I have a Vita, don’t I?

Let me just say that the internet in my home is pretty crappy & very inconsistent, even when connected via an ethernet cable so your experience might be a lot better than mines, but even with all the issues my internet has remote play works VERY well. Normally I play Knack or Resogun on my Vita before I go to bed and it’s really good. Sometimes I lag which leads to death(especially in Knack since I’m playing it on hard) but like I said, I believe that’s cause of my connection. So back to the ps4 itself, a lot of folks seem to be having hardware problems with their system(especially people who ordered through Amazon, like me) but luckily mines works perfectly fine. There was only one time that I had an issue with the system; no game was starting up, it would just sit in the loading screen so I turned off the system and booted it back up but for some reason I wasn’t getting no display. disconnecting and reconnecting the hdmi didn’t do squat but when I disconnected the entire system and reconnected it was back to its former great self. I’ve had no issues with the hardware since then. The UI for the system is really great as well, so good that I would love to see the Vita get an update that gives it a similar UI as well, as I’ve shared before I’m not a huge fan of the current Vita UI.

Although one thing that I don’t quite understand is the recording feature of the ps4. I’ve tried to use it before but it doesn’t record what I want. I thought that once you press the record button it would automatically save the last 15 minutes of game play, but most of the time it either takes a photo(I have almost 30 random photos on my ps4 already) or it records something really dumb that I didn’t want, the menu of a game or something. But besides that minor issue I’m really enjoying my ps4. The games are great, the system is fast, really I don’t got much negative things to say about this bad boy. I hope if you’re reading this and also have a ps4 you’re enjoying it as much as I am & if you don’t have one I hope you get one soon.

I’ve been gone since FOREVAH

There hasn’t really been much of a reason for it honestly. Just haven’t felt like posting anything. 😡 Well since last time I posted I bought The Last of Us and beat it. Pretty sad ending if you ask me. Also saw Sony’s Gamescom presentation, and let me just say I’ve lost all hope on the Vita ever picking up steam. Once again it was just port, port, port and more indie games. I have no problem with indie games, I do have a problem when the game has been for quite some time and they begin boasting about it like it’s the hottest shit to ever grace the system. I didn’t spend $250 to play ports and old indie games that I can get cheaper on PC.

I’ve already cancelled my pre-order for Killzone Mercenaries, no sense in buying more games on a system I’ve lost complete faith in. Once I beat Persona 4 Golden I’ll either sell the system or hold on to it to see if it’s any good at remote play(which if we’re being totally honest I doubt it’ll work as advertised.) Also I lol’d at the memory card price drops, it’s only like $20 cheaper now. the 32gb should cost $50 max, and the 4gb should be included with the system itself. Whatever though, makes no sense in worrying about memory card prices now. Don’t even get me started on the awful camera crap. Whoever was the camera director should either be fired or something. Overall I’d give that presentation a 1. The only reason it even gets a one is for at least announcing the PS4 release date, if it wasn’t for that I would’ve given it a 0. They might as well have just shown me an hour of Wonderbook 2 or some other crap I don’t care about.

Congrats Gamers, We Won!

So it looks like Microsoft has caved and has officially taken off the online restrictions off of the Xbox One. Not only that, but it’ll also be region free now too! I got to say that I’m very impressed. I thought they would’ve been too proud to change their policies. Now that that’s taken off I can start taking the Xbox One a little more serious. Of course I still have my doubts about the system. It’s full of ads, requires Kinect, Microsoft’s IPs don’t interest me much, it’s $100 more expensive, and I don’t trust them in supporting the Xbox1 with core games in 3 or so years from now. How do I know that they’ll keep releasing games that I like and not go full on casual like they did with the 360, lastly how do I know that they won’t add the always online thing later on in the console’s life? Personally I have not trust or faith in Microsoft, you have to earn that shit and they certainly haven’t earned mine. But regardless, looks like Sony’s main selling point has just been taken off. Now that Sony charges for online the only thing that’s giving them the leg up is is being $100 cheaper. Now I hope this  causes Sony to react and change their policy  for multiplayer, you know, online play being free and to make up for that have different tiers of PS+(I’m already a PS+ member but still). Maybe Microsoft would do the same, you know? 😛 Seriously, multiplayer should never be behind a paywall, its annoying.

Top 3 Games I Saw at E3

The last two years of E3 have been pretty underwhelming, I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. However, with new consoles coming to us later this year we got to see plenty of new games, and even new IPs. Some games were pretty boring(I’m looking at you, Ryse) but a lot other games look very impressive. One thing I noticed with a lot of next-gen games is that a lot seem to be going open world. Something I welcome with open arms, I love open world games, hopefully these games are packed with content, and easter eggs as well. For once in a long time I enjoyed a majority of the games, like at least 8 out of every 10; I was very impressed. There were three games that stuck out to me the most though, these three are presented in no particular order. Continue reading

What I Want to see in E3

Well folks, E3 is tomorrow and many of us are excited and worried about it. Will Sony fuck up as badly as Microsoft did? Hopefully not. Will Microsoft’s games outweigh their anti consumer tactics? Not in a million years, they can go on stage and say Fallout 4 will be exclusive to XB1 forever and I’d still tell ’em to fuck off. Also we’ll finally get our first glimpse at the next installment of Smash Bros, hopefully we also see the 3DS version as well which the the creator of Smash Bros has said he wanted to add RPG elements to that version to make it feel more personal so I’m be interested to see how that turns out. So, without further adieu here are the things I want to see at E3:

1. Sony doesn’t do some bullshit anti consumer tactics. – Do I really have to explain? If they do that I guess the only next-gen console I’ll own will be a Wii U

2. Pokemon Snap 2 – Seriously, with the Wii Pad? come on, it just makes far too much sense to not be in development.

3. Vita games – Not ports, not spin offs. Original games(like Gravity Rush) or new installments(like how Birth by Sleep is a main entry in the KH series.) I still don’t understand why Sony completely ignored the Vita last year, hopefully they don’t do the same this year. Also let’s hope they announce a hefty price drop and some bundles, It would be nice if the Vita picked up some steam so more 3rd party publishers jumped on board.

4. PS4 doesn’t charge to play online. – I don’t mind if that extra stuff is behind a pay wall but I shouldn’t have to pay to use my router.

5. Fallout 4 – Please not a modified Fallout 3 engine like what Skyrim used. Please, use a brand new stable engine that is also able to accomplish much more. Don’t make modders do your job.
Also none of the Microsoft exclusive shit, fuck that crap.
6. Steam Workshop like feature on consoles. – Seriously, mods are the fucking best. One of my top 3 favorite features about gaming on PC. I don’t know how it’ll work, but Sony might be able to do it with Steam’s own workshop. After all, we have seen steam integrated on the PS3 with Portal 2 so it might be possible, or so I assume.

7. New 3DS model with a built-in 2nd analog nub. – Why this wasn’t part of the original design and has to be sold as a separate accessory is beyond me. Touch screen cannot substitute a second analog nub.

8. A reason to own a Wii U. – I played a Wii U this weekend. It was garbage. I didn’t like it, games sucked(I played NintendoLand, ZombiU, and New Super Mario Bros.), UI was also trash, and there doesn’t appear to be anything of interest coming out anytime soon with the exception of Smash Bros, which leads me to the next thing.

9. Mewtwo In Smash Bros. – Why would you take him out in the first place? :/ Whats next, going to replace Lucario with Zoroark or whatever Pokemon will replace Zoroark in the next Pokemon gen? Just give me the original badass back, please. Give him some actual good moves while you’re at it.

10. New IPs. – Sure sequels are great, but I also love some new IPs as well, I’m sure we all feel the same way about that.

Tomorrow I’ll post my impressions of the first day of E3, I might post different ones for each show or I might just do one at the end of the day and lump them all into one post depending how motivated I am. 🙂 Until tomorrow, friends.

Last of Us Demo Impression

The Last of Us demo was finally unlocked today, though a bit later than it was supposed to, no problem for me though since I just decided to play some God of War: Ascension multiplayer for an hour assuming it would get fixed by then(which it did). The demo downloads very quickly, first its the launcher, then it downloads the actual demo once the launcher is complete. Once I got into the game the very first thing I noticed was the resemblance to the Uncharted series, I don’t know if Joel’s animations are brand new or if he’s using the one Naughty Dog used for Drake but they both look like they share the same ones, or at the very least they share some. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, the animations from Uncharted are very good. Luckily for us though that appears to be the only thing both game share in common.

The demo’s setting was a pretty dark and moody one, it reminded me of some areas in Fallout 3. You can clearly tell that shit has went down in the area, buildings collapsed, gaping holes all over the place, nature slowly but surely reclaiming the area. It’s very beautiful. Unlike Uncharted, this is more or less a stealth game. See, supplies are limited, there is no regenerating health, plus there is an enemy known as Clickers(more on them a bit later) who can kill you in one hit. Another thing that is also interesting is that ammo is very scarce so you’ll want to be very careful with it, also you must take into consideration the sound’s the gun makes as well because it WILL alert other enemies. This is obviously out of Naughty Dog’s comfort zone and even if the game doesn’t sound appealing to you(I recommend you give it a try though, ND is unarguably one of the best developers of this generation), at the very least you got to give them credit for trying something they’ve never done before.

For you newbies the game also has an option that lets Joel see through walls when standing still to help you out, don’t fret though you hardcore gamers, this option can be turned off completely, though if you plan on not using it I recommend you play with some really good headphones. The demo was fun and definitely made me a bit excited for the game, the problem with it though was that it was far too short. It can be completed in like what, 15 minutes? The Clicker’s also disappointed me. You only meet two in the demo and one is handled through QTE(seriously, fuck the person who thought of QTE, laziest mechanic in gaming), you only get to handle one of them your way. One thing I really like about the Clickers though is that they’re blind so they won’t be able to see you, the way they find you is by listening, so to distract them you throw bricks and bottles around to divert their attention somewhere else(this is possible with all the enemies). There wasn’t much to fight in the demo unfortunately, as a matter a fact, there were only like 8 enemies. It’s a demo though so whatever. All I’m saying is that if you plan on buying/renting GoW:A only for the demo don’t even bother, if you do that, buy it for God of War, not the demo or else you’ll feel disappointed.

The Last of Us releases June 13, 2013 in the US, so be sure to check it out if you’re interested.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Review

NiNoKuni1

Thanks to spring break(which went by far too quickly) I was finally able to get through some of my games in my backlog, one of which is Ni no Kuni which I originally pre-ordered. Ni No Kuni is as JRPG as it gets, there’s a world map you can explore, grinding, monster catching(familiar taming in this case). All in all it takes elements found in many of the greatest JRPG games and puts them all in one game. The game begins with Oliver, our hero, also known as the one with the pure heart in his hometown Motorville. It’s a quite little town, which to be quite honest was quite boring, but don’t fret as you don’t spend much time here before you finally arrive in the other world, where the true game starts.

I don’t want to get too much into the story, but without entering spoiler territory it was quite annoying for me as the gamer to completely understand what was going on while the characters themselves don’t have a clue and takes them quite a while to figure out. This wouldn’t be a problem if it only happened once or twice, but it happens quite a lot throughout the game.

Now if you’ve ever watched a Studio Ghibli movie you know just how creative they are, and it truly shines in this game with its Pokemon like monster system. Also, let me just mention I adore the familiar names(one, off the top of my head is Girlfiend who is a ghost that carries her tombstone, and was also someone’s girlfriend when she was alive.) The English voice acting cast is also quite amazing, the only one that falls a little short is the lead, Oliver. It’s not that his voice actor did a bad job, it’s just that sometimes he sounds dead compared to the rest of the cast.

Now for the gameplay, like i mentioned earlier, the game has a Pokemon capturing like mechanic where Esther can tame a familiar after defeating it. I had some issues with this though, since it’s all based on chance I would often find myself grinding on a familiar that i wanted for myself; this becomes even more frustrating for certain side quest which has you capturing certain familiars. Though, the good thing about it was that I did little to no grinding because I was always either over leveled or just there where the game wasn’t too easy or too hard.

I should also mention that there are also some other odd design choices as well. But, let me first mention that the AI in the game is in my opinion, complete trash; Esther being the worse. Esther will eat through her MP like there’s no tomorrow. Now sure, you can change her tactic to lets say, “don’t use skills,” but by doing this she’ll become the punching bag to your opponent; which for some odd reason the enemy ALWAYS goes after the poor girl, no matter what tactic i had her in. This is a huge problem because she’s the only character that can tame familiars. So be prepared to not only fight monsters, but keep Esther healthy just in case a familiar wants to be tamed.

Overall, this is a love letter and a must have for any JRPG lovers and Studio Ghibli fans, and if you’re both like myself you should already have this amazing game! It has fantastic music, character progression, a fun battle system, and is a quite longer than most games in the market these days; it took me 46 hours to beat the main story.
