Sony E3 Conference Impression

I think its pretty ironic how Microsoft, who’ve we all been bagging on for not being about games showed more games than Sony did. Game wise Sony’s conference was extremely underwhelming, and if that wasn’t bad enough they went on and wasted a slot on basketball, I face palmed so hard at that. However while the games were really lacking, they’ve sure made up for with the PS4’s policies. The system will have NO DRM! So you can sell your game, lend it, keep it forever, without ever having to go online. If that wasn’t good enough, the system will also launch at $400, that’s a whole $100 less than the xbone!

There was also some bad news as well though, it sounds like the PS4 will require you to pay to play online, I assumed what they meant by that immersive multiplayer thing was that you needed Plus to use Ustream and all that other video stuff, but a lot of gaming sites are saying that it actually means you have to pay to play online. Well at least you don’t need Plus to use apps like Netflix, Hulu, and others. Very disappointed withe the lack of Vita love, just a bunch of ports of ports and games that we’ve already knew about, at least they didn’t ignore the system like they did last year I guess. Also can I say Destiny was a very poor way to end the show. My god did that game look boring as fuck. The only good “new” games that were shown was from Square Enix, Final Fantasy 15(previously Versus 13) and a teaser to Kingdom Hearts 3(hopefully we don’t have to wait like 6 fucking years for it like Versus). I do wonder though if both FF15 and KH3 are exclusively on PS4, and when do they plan on releasing. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too much longer for FF15.

Let me also add that I find it ironic that Square Enix ended up showing the best game, that FF13 crap is absolute garbage, its such garbage that I have given it its own genre, I don’t consider that series as an RPG, instead I’d label it garbage, plain and simple. One thing I’m interested in is The Elder Scrolls Online(which will have an exclusive beta on ps4), I want to know if its going to follow Guild Wars 2 route where you pay $60 and you play the game for free after that, with an added cash shop where you can buy cosmetic items that doesn’t affect the balance of the gameplay of if it’ll follow the really shitty pay for the game then another $15 every month OR the much worse free to play route where its basically pay to win. Hopefully it goes by the first route. I officially hate the Mad Max game. Since they showed it after Elder Scrolls and it began with a man lying there in the middle of a waste land you know what I thought of, right? I was beyond pissed when the car showed up because after that I immediately knew it wasn’t my precious Fallout 4.

So, we still don’t have a concrete release date on the PS4, but it’s supposed to be coming out in the Holiday season so I believe that’s October the earliest. Between Microsoft’s and Sony’s conference there is no doubt that overall Sony definitely won E3, they absolutely destroyed Microsoft with the Ps4’s price and stance on used games. But at the same time I feel that Microsoft definitely showed much better games, but also many of the ones that blew me away are third-party and will also appear on Sony’s system. Hopefully the gaming media is wrong about paying to play online for the PS4 and it’s actually the Ustream stuff that’s behind a pay wall because if so, Sony has won the whole fucking generation, I don’t care.

Microsoft E3 Conference Impression

I must say that Microsoft really impressed me with their show. They brought the games and talked about the CLOUDZ a lot. Really smart choice to open with Metal Gear Solid, that was fucking AMAZING! I loved how dynamic it all was. Also laughed at the quick forwarding part in the beginning, maybe a little joke about how people complain about MGS’s length.  Up next was World of Tanks, tanks are pretty neat I guess, same goes for Dark Souls. The first exclusive game they show for Xbone was Ryse.

Visually it was beautiful, but my god does it look boring gameplay wise. It was riddled with QTEs for everything. Last time we heard of this game it was a Kniect game and has been switched over to controller, which is great because that means it won’t be on rails; but if its going to basically be a QTE scripted game why even bother? Killer Instincts was niceeee! I’ve never played the previous ones but I really liked how over the top the narrator was. Then Insomniac back stabs Sony(joking, business is business), with making an exclusive for Xbone, Sunset Overdrive. I wish I could share my impression about what I think about it but instead we’re given CGI garbage that shows us absolutely nothing about the game, not even its art direction because as Insomniac as shown us with Fuse, don’t trust their announcement trailer as an indication as what the game will look like. By the way, I hate CGI trailers, they’re a waste of money, show me the game instead. CGI trailers just lead to misunderstandings on what the game will look like and play.

For you racer fans Froza looked cool, I liked how they brought in that car to the show. I don’t know about cars but it looked really cool. Project Spark was very interesting. I’m a huge fan of LittleBigPlanet, and this seems to resemble it a lot but in a wider scale. For starters its fully 3D(please do this LBP3) and it looks like it has super powers as well. Can’t wait to see more of it; also, Roch Mech ftw.  Microsoft announced a partnership with Twitch for live streaming which makes a lot of sense now. No wonder we didn’t hear about Twitch at Sony’s announcement, guess Microsoft got to them first. Crimson Dragon was just lol,  that looks boring.Dead Rising was fascinating, it looks like their shifting the tone of the game. I’ve never played DR but from what I’ve seen they look pretty silly and have some humor. This seems to be a different case, seems more gritty, disappointing since we have enough of those but regardless the game looks amazing.

One thing I liked about it was the realistic zombie count. By realistic I mean the city is actually crowded with zombies like how real life is crowded with people. I guess you can say they have way more in the game but whatever, it looks great. I did notice that the frame rate dropped every now and then plus that bomb drop with Smart Glass at the end was just really stupid but I’m sure that can be fixed before launch. Was disappointed to hear that it was only on Xbone. Battlefield 4’s live demo had some technical issues  in the beginning and showed that xbone will receive dlc first, I don’t know why, that’s just plain fucking stupid but whatever. Once the demo finally started it was just more of the single player, why? I wanted to see some more of Below, it look different from what Microsoft usually offers.

Then we were up to the game that would end the show. I’m sure everyone was expecting Call of Duty, I certainly was, Microsoft loves CoD. But no, instead we’re given the gameplay premiere of the Call of Duty creators next game TitanFall which is being published by EA. Certainly was interesting, looks easy to play and the mechs looked fun, I like how the mechs go on auto pilot when you exit it. I can definitely see this being the next big thing; again, very smart of Microsoft to lock this down. Overall it was a very impressive show, and a welcome surprised since Microsoft’s past couple of E3s have been garbage. Yes, the games do look impressive but I cannot look passed the anti consumer tactic on the console. Oh, I forgot to mention that the console will launch this November at $500, that’s really expensive, wonder how thats going to pan out.

3 PSP Games Worth Checking Out

Hey guys, sorry about not posting anything in the last couple of days, had a mid term plus I need to finish up the first part of my transfer application, so I haven’t had much time to play lately(must play more Ni No Kuni!!). Lately I’ve found myself playing some of my old PSP PSN games on the train. So I figured I’d share three of my favorite PSP games that are available one the PSN, note that these are also playable on the Vita as well; which is the system I play them on.

3) Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy

This is a prequel to the original Dissidia and features more characters as well. While the story is quite… confusing, the combat is the true meat of the game. Think of it as the Smash Bros of Final Fantasy, and just like Final Fantasy you can customize your equipment, even your moveset! The only disappointing thing about this game is that Cloud doesn’t have a Zack Fair alternate costume -Zack fanboy-.

2) Gods Eater Burst

This game is one of my newer purchases, so far I’m about 25 hours in if i recall correctly. This game is at heart a Monster Hunter competitor; or clone as many like to label it. Now for me I never found much joy out of Monster Hunter, not that it was a bad game. It’s just I’d get bored of playing after a mission or two, but its different with Gods Eater. I guess its because theirs a story, an ultimate goal you can say. Plus, its more action packed. Basically every mission is like fighting one of the bigger baddies that’s in Monster Hunter, which is great.

1) Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days

Without a doubt this is the game I’ve invested  the most hours into on my PSP, the only game that even comes slightly close is the original Disgaea. If you don’t know what this game is about, it’s a strategy RPG with some of the most quirkiest characters I’ve ever seen, which is what keeps me hooked on the series. This game is all about leveling up, you even enter stages in your equipment to level them up as well.  According to my save file I’ve already invested 162 hours into Dark Hero Days, and the game is only $20. Some might not enjoy the grinding, hell, I didn’t like it at first neither but the story really keeps you playing.
