Update on Life

Truthfully nothing interesting has been going on in my life lately(social wise), shocking, I know. BUT, my gaming life has been pretty sweet. I’ve finally finish The Witcher 2, my first playthrough was on Iorveth’s side. Holy shit, the first two acts in the game were LOOOOOOONG. I didn’t even know the game was split up in 3 acts until on my 12th hour of gameplay I finished the first act. All I thought to myself was “da fuck!? that was all one act, how many freaking acts are in the game!?” Not that I dislike long games, it’s just that it got me off guard.I’ll go back soon for another playthrough on Roche’s side. This time I’ll play on normal. Yea, that’s right. I played on easy; game is super hard. 😛

Also, I’ve pre-ordered GTA5 on psn. Normally I’m highly against pre-ordering/purchasing retail games on psn because they’re marked full price, but I made an exception this ONE time because both my brother and I would like to play GTA Online together. Red Dead Redemption was my favorite multiplayer game this gen, so if GTA is even half as good as that I’d be more than happy, though I’m sure it’ll be way better.

Um, let’s see… I also bought Spelunky today on PSN. game is hard as balls. Still haven’t gotten past 1-3. Its is really fun though; and I’m very shocked but I think I actually like how the game looks more on the Vita than I do on the PS3. I know, weird, right?

AAAAANNNNNND lastly, tonight is my final day of Summer. Tomorrow I have to wake up early for my first day of school. Super disappointed when I found out I started school so early. Every school I’ve ever been to has always started on Sept. 9, Y U START SO EARLY, BROOKLYN COLLEGE!? So yea, I’ll make a new post tomorrow or something on how my first day back goes. By the way, this is a new school, so I got to make friends all over again, what a drag. >_>

Beat American Nightmare(Super Short Review)

What a dull game. I tried the first level in arcade mode(which is basically horde mode) and uninstalled the game afterwords, it wasn’t my cup of tea since I’m not really one of those aim for high scores kind of guy. Took me five hours to beat the story. Only thing that kept me going through  the game was the notes scattered throughout the world, honestly it’s the only interesting thing about the game. In story mode you’ll visit three different areas three times, each one containing its own damsel in distress. Each mission is practically a fetch quest, “Alan, go do this so you can get that.” Also all the missions are the same thing as well, just slightly altered.Honestly there isn’t much for me to say about this game. If you enjoyed Alan Wake 1 and want to buy American Nightmare for its story(like I did) don’t bother. However, if you’re one of those people who like arcade type games or horde mode I’d recommend it, but wait till it’s like 5 dollars or less, it’s really not worth more than that to me. Each wave gets tougher, hell, I almost didn’t even finish the one round I played cause there were so many enemies.

4/10

American Nightmare Is so Frustrating

Jeez, this game is so repetitive and it doesn’t even try to hide it. You literally do the same missions for the same people. I’m doing it for the third(and hopefully last) time. Thank god I got this game for like 2 dollars or some shit like that, I would’ve felt so ripped off if i spent $15 on this. Shame too since the original Alan Wake is such an amazing experience. Well for what it’s worth the story continues two years after the originals ending, at least the story isn’t bad. I don’t want to spoil the game for anyone since Alan Wake is a very story driven series but Remedy’s idea for American Nightmare doesn’t translate so well into a game, hell, I don’t even think it’ll work on television or movies either. For those that have played the game, you know what I mean.

Woo, Beat Another Game!

I beat Max Payne 3 today, that’s another game off the backlog! Making some progress, brah! Up next is Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. I think I might also play Mario Galaxy 2 while I’m playing the other 3(which you can see on the “What I’m Playing” page.)  I sold my Wii ages ago so I play my Wii games on Dolphin, which is a Wii/Gamecube emulator for those who don’t know. It has its pros and cons. Some games have some glitches, for example, both Mario Galaxy games have audio glitches where the background music stops playing after a while and that can be a problem after boss fights as the game will freeze, that sucks cause the little music I’ve heard from the game is actually pretty cool. On the other hand though, you can play games in sweet, sweet HD. Let me just say that there’s a HUGE difference once the game is in HD. I recommend giving the emulator a shot if your PC can handle it. You can even use a Wii mote with the emulator too if you want, I prefer using my MLG PS3 controller though.

Oh yeah, I got some good news about my problem with school if anyone’s interested. I fixed the problem with the class they were saying I was missing over the phone so I was able to save myself the long ride home, and also I got an email from Hunter College telling me I got in. It’s not the school I want but if I don’t hear anything from Brooklyn College within the next two weeks I’m just going to settle with Hunter. I want to stop worrying about school as soon as possible so I can start enjoying my Summer vacation and also get an idea of what my schedule will be like in the Fall so I can get a job that’ll play nice with my schedule.

Well, until tomorrow my friends! I’m going to play a bit of Fallout: New Vegas, even though it’s a glitch fest it’s one of my favorite games, it’s that good. Speaking of which, I decided I’m going to start my best and worst games of the generation sometime this week, but I’ll only be doing the negative side first, I want to play The Last of Us and see if I should put it on my list as best something on my list since all I hear is praise for the game. So make sure to look out for that! Night, everyone; it’s gonna be 12am here in NYC and I’m getting sleepy @_@.

Best & Worst Game Awards

With this generation almost coming to an end I want to make some best and worst of the generation awards. I don’t know if I should wait till September though since that’ll be the month where the last few games I’ll be purchasing this generation are released. Besides, I haven’t gotten around to buying The Last of Us, I hear it’s a nearly flawless game. Then again, I’d rather make the list while the games I’d pick are still fresh in my mind. Maybe I’ll just start by posting the worse games of the generations, I highly doubt any games that I want later on this month will top how bad the games on my list are. Oh yea, tomorrow I’m going to go to school to get my whole graduation shit checked out, hopefully it all goes well; wish me luck.

By the way, the list will contain the games from Wii, DS, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, PC(games that have come out in like the last 6 years or so). For some reason my friends don’t consider the PSP and DS in the same generation as the WiiPS360, but I do. So yea, till tomorrow or whenever I feel like doing it 😛
(Excuse any spelling errors and shit like that, I’m typing this up on my tablet with this new case that I got which has a bluetooth keyboard. I

Top 3 Games I Saw at E3

The last two years of E3 have been pretty underwhelming, I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. However, with new consoles coming to us later this year we got to see plenty of new games, and even new IPs. Some games were pretty boring(I’m looking at you, Ryse) but a lot other games look very impressive. One thing I noticed with a lot of next-gen games is that a lot seem to be going open world. Something I welcome with open arms, I love open world games, hopefully these games are packed with content, and easter eggs as well. For once in a long time I enjoyed a majority of the games, like at least 8 out of every 10; I was very impressed. There were three games that stuck out to me the most though, these three are presented in no particular order. Continue reading

Microsoft E3 Conference Impression

I must say that Microsoft really impressed me with their show. They brought the games and talked about the CLOUDZ a lot. Really smart choice to open with Metal Gear Solid, that was fucking AMAZING! I loved how dynamic it all was. Also laughed at the quick forwarding part in the beginning, maybe a little joke about how people complain about MGS’s length.  Up next was World of Tanks, tanks are pretty neat I guess, same goes for Dark Souls. The first exclusive game they show for Xbone was Ryse.

Visually it was beautiful, but my god does it look boring gameplay wise. It was riddled with QTEs for everything. Last time we heard of this game it was a Kniect game and has been switched over to controller, which is great because that means it won’t be on rails; but if its going to basically be a QTE scripted game why even bother? Killer Instincts was niceeee! I’ve never played the previous ones but I really liked how over the top the narrator was. Then Insomniac back stabs Sony(joking, business is business), with making an exclusive for Xbone, Sunset Overdrive. I wish I could share my impression about what I think about it but instead we’re given CGI garbage that shows us absolutely nothing about the game, not even its art direction because as Insomniac as shown us with Fuse, don’t trust their announcement trailer as an indication as what the game will look like. By the way, I hate CGI trailers, they’re a waste of money, show me the game instead. CGI trailers just lead to misunderstandings on what the game will look like and play.

For you racer fans Froza looked cool, I liked how they brought in that car to the show. I don’t know about cars but it looked really cool. Project Spark was very interesting. I’m a huge fan of LittleBigPlanet, and this seems to resemble it a lot but in a wider scale. For starters its fully 3D(please do this LBP3) and it looks like it has super powers as well. Can’t wait to see more of it; also, Roch Mech ftw.  Microsoft announced a partnership with Twitch for live streaming which makes a lot of sense now. No wonder we didn’t hear about Twitch at Sony’s announcement, guess Microsoft got to them first. Crimson Dragon was just lol,  that looks boring.Dead Rising was fascinating, it looks like their shifting the tone of the game. I’ve never played DR but from what I’ve seen they look pretty silly and have some humor. This seems to be a different case, seems more gritty, disappointing since we have enough of those but regardless the game looks amazing.

One thing I liked about it was the realistic zombie count. By realistic I mean the city is actually crowded with zombies like how real life is crowded with people. I guess you can say they have way more in the game but whatever, it looks great. I did notice that the frame rate dropped every now and then plus that bomb drop with Smart Glass at the end was just really stupid but I’m sure that can be fixed before launch. Was disappointed to hear that it was only on Xbone. Battlefield 4’s live demo had some technical issues  in the beginning and showed that xbone will receive dlc first, I don’t know why, that’s just plain fucking stupid but whatever. Once the demo finally started it was just more of the single player, why? I wanted to see some more of Below, it look different from what Microsoft usually offers.

Then we were up to the game that would end the show. I’m sure everyone was expecting Call of Duty, I certainly was, Microsoft loves CoD. But no, instead we’re given the gameplay premiere of the Call of Duty creators next game TitanFall which is being published by EA. Certainly was interesting, looks easy to play and the mechs looked fun, I like how the mechs go on auto pilot when you exit it. I can definitely see this being the next big thing; again, very smart of Microsoft to lock this down. Overall it was a very impressive show, and a welcome surprised since Microsoft’s past couple of E3s have been garbage. Yes, the games do look impressive but I cannot look passed the anti consumer tactic on the console. Oh, I forgot to mention that the console will launch this November at $500, that’s really expensive, wonder how thats going to pan out.

Time to Play Bastion + More of My Life

As I said in a previous post, I’verecently completed Sleeping Dogs and moved on to the DLC “Nightmare in North Point,” and lets just say that add on wasn’t was what I expected. Sure, it was funny and added some extra missions, but it was really short. I completed the entire thing in like an hour and a half. But I can’t complain much, after all, I did buy the game and the dlc back during Steam’s Spring Sale pricing error so in total I believe it was like $6 something. I got 18 hours of gameplay in total so I’d say I got more than my money’s worth.

I know I said I was going to go back into Soul Sacrifice but I’ve been rage quitting a lot in that game recently. I’m up to the mission where you have to solo a Cyclops, the most I’ve done was gotten it’s health to orange before I died. It’s the god damn spider’s and their annoying web skill that keeps fucking me up; the Cyclops’s spinning move doesn’t help neither. So instead I’ve decided to just tackle another game on my Steam backlog, I decided on playing Bastion, a game I picked up during a humble bundle deal(by the way, the game plays like ass with mouse and keyboard in my opinion.) I don’t think I’ll be playing much this weekend because I have my final scene due Tuesday for my acting class and I still don’t got my lines memorized, plus there’s also some writing work I got to do as well for that class.

On another note, RIT finally got my transcript so all that’s left now is for them to review my application. I don’t think I mentioned it before but I applied for game design and programming. I spend most of my time doing game related things, so I figured I might as well make a living out of making games. Yes, I know making games and playing them are two completely different things but honestly nothing else inspires me so yea. Hopefully I get accepted, it’s a really expensive school, plus I’d have to move and live on campus since I live in NYC, but I’ll worry about that once I know if I got accepted or not, NYU already rejected my application so I’m pretty bummed out about that.

Xbox One Still Disappoints

I was literally expecting nothing good from that conference. In fact the only reason I was even semi interested was because as a hardcore gamer I can’t help but get even the slightest bit interested for gaming hardware, even if I have no intention of ever buying one(Oyua for example, thats a piece of shit but when it was first announced I was quite curious about it.) So basically anything could’ve excited me, but I still ended up disappointed. Holy crap they spent SO much time talking about sports, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TIME! first the fantasy football crap then EA and then even more sports crap. Personally I don’t like sports, well, what I mean is that I don’t watch them or play video games about them. If I wanted to play sports, I’d go out, and you know, actually play sports. More of the Call of Duty + Microsoft exclusive timed DLC, EA also cuddling with Microsoft with some exclusive DLC and so on. Does timed DLC really make people buy said game on 360? If anything it makes me simply rather not buy the game at all since apparently to Activision my money isn’t worth enough to receive content the same day as 360 users. But I don’t care much about that since I tend to ignore games with timed dlc or simply just have an excessive amount of DLC. Microsoft also seems to be biting the hands that feed them, blocking used games, requiring internet connection, kinect required and maybe one or two things that I’m missing. Oh yea, apparently you still need to pay to play online as well. Well fellow consumers, I hope you make the right choice and not buy the Xbox One. It’s clearly designed for publishers instead of consumers, which I don’t get the point of that since its us that they’re trying to sell the One to, not the publishers.

Oh yea, hey Sony, I just thought of the best slogan for you guys: 4 is better than One. You’re welcome. 😛

What I Hope is the Xbox Reveal

So the Xbox reveal is tomorrow. Unfortunately I have school so I won’t be able to watch it live 😦 . However let me share with you what I hope is in the reveal tomorrow; I honestly want the always online rumor to be true. For those not familiar with the rumor apparently the next Xbox will require an internet connection to do anything with it. It doesn’t help that a Microsoft employee was also defending always online as well, even going as far as to mock people who live in areas with a shitty internet connection. Now allow to to explain why I want the rumor to be true.

This generation has been extremely anti consumer. with certain parts of the games blocking mulitplayer or some single player content unless you buy it new, Diablo 3 and Simcity requiring internet connection to play the game as a form of DRM, and so on. Now making a system that only works with internet connection is taking it a whole step further and is probably one of the most anti consumer thing you could do with a system. So why exactly do I want it? for the market to flat out reject it and the system to fail miserably. To teach game corporations that they can’t walk all over us and the only thing we can do is “deal with it.” I want a nice thick visible line to be drawn for these corporations so they know what they can and CAN’T do. Well anyway that’s my 2 cents. It might be poorly written since I’m extremely tired and still got a lot of work to do but I hope you get the basic gist.
