Today I got both good and bad news in the mail. Good news, I got into RIT! Exciting isn’t it? Finally my ticket out of this place. But, knowing my life there’s always a catch. The catch this time was that yes I did get into RIT, but I can’t go for Game Design & Development because the program is full or some mumbo jumbo, instead the letter says to contact them so I can choose a different major. Whats the point in going if I can’t go for what I want to do? Plus on top of that, I was looking up scholarships to help reduce the cost of the school and I can’t get any of them. So not only can I not go for what I want, but I also can’t get a scholarship to afford it if I do decide to go for a different major. Did I forget to mention that all the CUNY schools I applied to have a wrong social security number(a mistake on THEIR part since I have a copy of my application which has my actual social security) that I still haven’t gotten fixed because their office is only open Monday through Thursday? Damn man, I was really looking forward to getting out of this place, but doesn’t look like that’s happening anytime soon. I suppose I should be a little happy that they’re at least giving me the opportunity to go but with a different major, unlike NYU which just flat out rejected me. I’m feeling really down, man. Just once I wish things would go my way.
As I said in a previous post, I’verecently completed Sleeping Dogs and moved on to the DLC “Nightmare in North Point,” and lets just say that add on wasn’t was what I expected. Sure, it was funny and added some extra missions, but it was really short. I completed the entire thing in like an hour and a half. But I can’t complain much, after all, I did buy the game and the dlc back during Steam’s Spring Sale pricing error so in total I believe it was like $6 something. I got 18 hours of gameplay in total so I’d say I got more than my money’s worth.
I know I said I was going to go back into Soul Sacrifice but I’ve been rage quitting a lot in that game recently. I’m up to the mission where you have to solo a Cyclops, the most I’ve done was gotten it’s health to orange before I died. It’s the god damn spider’s and their annoying web skill that keeps fucking me up; the Cyclops’s spinning move doesn’t help neither. So instead I’ve decided to just tackle another game on my Steam backlog, I decided on playing Bastion, a game I picked up during a humble bundle deal(by the way, the game plays like ass with mouse and keyboard in my opinion.) I don’t think I’ll be playing much this weekend because I have my final scene due Tuesday for my acting class and I still don’t got my lines memorized, plus there’s also some writing work I got to do as well for that class.
On another note, RIT finally got my transcript so all that’s left now is for them to review my application. I don’t think I mentioned it before but I applied for game design and programming. I spend most of my time doing game related things, so I figured I might as well make a living out of making games. Yes, I know making games and playing them are two completely different things but honestly nothing else inspires me so yea. Hopefully I get accepted, it’s a really expensive school, plus I’d have to move and live on campus since I live in NYC, but I’ll worry about that once I know if I got accepted or not, NYU already rejected my application so I’m pretty bummed out about that.
Yay it finally came! The good news is that it came with all its original packaging which is sweet, but unfortunately there is also bad news. DS3 tool doeskin detect it as a ps3 controller so i cant emulate it as a 360 controller through that. Also no game seems to natively support the controller, Sleeping Dogs for example opens up the map when you press either r2 or l2. I cant seem tp find a way to fix it either so I’m quote disappointed. I know, i know, if i wanted it for pc gaming why get the ps3 version instead of the 360 version? Well for one the ps3 version was 30 bucks cheaper and i kind of wanted a new ps3 controller so why not hit two birds with one stone? Anyway its pretty late so I’m just going to go to bed and try again tomorrow when i get home from school. Wish me luck.
EDIT: Finally after hours of fiddling around with x360ce I got it working with Sleeping Dogs! Now I can play the game with my awesome new controller during the weekend! Can’t wait.
Well like I said yesterday, I was looking around the internet for a controller so I could play on my PC. I’ve been using my wireless PS3 controller connected via usb but I’d rather not keep playing like that since it messes up the battery of the controller, it’s happened to me before. So I was going to go with the official Xbox 360 wired controller but then I found the MLG controller which can be customized to either the PS3 layout or 360 layout. Now this was great for me because as a PS3 gamer I much prefer the analog sticks to both be on the bottom and the dpad to be on top. But, unfortunately it cost 100 dollars. So instead of just giving up I decided to buy one from the Amazon Warehouse for $65. If you’re not familiar with Amazon’s Warehouse everything is pretty much used so yea. I’ve never bought anything from Amazon Warehouse or anything used online so I don’t know how good it’ll be when it comes. The original package contains 4 analog sticks(2 360 style and 2 PS3 style) and 2 dpads(1 360 and the other PS3), 2 different styled plates, weights to make the controller heavier or lighter, and a small case to fit all this in. I’m hoping it comes with everything but I should probably lower down my expectations so I don’t end up disappointed otherwise. Hopefully it works so I don’t have to return it; I’ve never returned anything online so to be honest I have no idea how I’d return it. Also, it won’t be here till next week according to Amazon but since I live in New York it might come earlier than usual like everything else I order directly from Amazon.
While playing Sleeping Dogs I realized that a bunch of the console ported games I have for PC have crappy controls. Sure, I use my PS3 controller but that is also quite frustrating because of the shoulder buttons plus the constant charging from the PC messes up the battery(this has already happened to one of my previous controllers unfortunately). I couldn’t find a layout to my liking(360 style triggers and dpad and left stick placed where they are on the PS3 controller). I did want to get some fancy looking Razer controller but it was like 80 dollars and I’m not about to spend that much on a god damn control, honestly who has money like that for just ONE control? so I’ll just have to settle with the first party wired control, the good news is that it’s only 30 bucks on Newegg so that’s pretty sweet. I’ll order it tomorrow and hopefully it gets here by Friday or Saturday so I can use it during the weekend.
With me finally finishing 2 games in my backlog(Kingdom of Amalur & Sonic Generations) I feel like I’m up for an action game now, so I’ll be tackling Sleeping Dogs now. I played it a bit before when I originally bought it when steam accidentally had it on sale for like 90%(plus I bought the zombie DLC too). While I did enjoy the little I played I was in the middle of two other games so it was shoved to the back burner. Coincidentally, Sleeping Dogs will also be one of the PS3’s PS+ games for this month so if you don’t have it yet make sure to give it a go when it’s released.
… I’m so close to caving and buying Peace Walker for the PS3, but my back log is so long as it is, I don’t want to add more to it. 😡 But then again, it’s only ten bucks and Sony pracicaly gave me ten bucks last month so its almost as if it’s Sony buying it for me instead. Besides, when will I get another chance to buy this for that price or lower? I mean after all the console gen is almost coming to an end so if it comes out for like $5 in 2 years chances are I wont care for this game anymore by that time. @_@ Decisions decisions, I’ll think about it for a little more, the sale will still be there tomorrow anyway.
