Smash Bros Nintendo Direct Impression

Boy oh boy what a Direct that was. I have to admit, was I looking forward to SSB4? Yea, of course, but, I wouldn’t say that I was excited about it. That has completely changed after that Direct though, I’m beyond hype. The only way that I could possibly be more excited about it is if they showed Mewtwo with a complete overhaul(because like I’ve stated previously, I do love me some Mewtwo but there is no denying that he was complete ass in Melee). Speaking of Mewtwo, Sakurai, you son of a bitch, can’t believe I fell for that bait and switch with Greninja. More on Greninja on a little later though. Can you believe that we’ll be able to play Smash THIS Summer?! Holy shit, man, that’s insane. I hope to God though that by Summer 2014 they don’t mean late August – any time in September. Seriously, fuck that; might as well release in the Fall if that’s what they mean. School starts at that time, I don’t want to be in school when it comes out cause then how the hell am I supposed to fully enjoy it? Hoping its July at the latest.

At first I was confused as to why they’d release the 3DS version first but after thinking about it, it makes perfect sense. Not to say that the 3DS version is gimped or anything because saying that would be a disservice to it, but at the same time let’s be real; the main event is the Wii U version. The 3DS version coming out in the Summer is great for many reasons, satisfies our SSB needs, releases in a season that for some stupid reason very few games come out(most games should come out in the Summer, that’s when I have the most free time. Screw the holiday season, I only get a week off.) so there’s little to no competition, and also it won’t cannibalize the Wii U version’s sales(because after all, there are way more 3DS owners than Wii U, hell, most folks don’t even own a Wii U), which will be coming out during Winter(bet money its late November). So this time around there’ll be no transformation characters, instead all transformations now get their own slot, which is a great move on their part.  Continue reading

Super Smash Bros Wii U Mario Vs. Mega Man

Some gameplay that I found on a forum. It looks like Mario is keeping that shitty FLOOD move from Brawl. Lets hope its actually useful this time around. The game is looking absolutely gorgeous, I thought the art direction in Brawl was amazing but this takes the cake, I mean sure it isn’t as detailed as Brawl, but HD man, and the lighting is stunning.

Last of Us Demo Impression

The Last of Us demo was finally unlocked today, though a bit later than it was supposed to, no problem for me though since I just decided to play some God of War: Ascension multiplayer for an hour assuming it would get fixed by then(which it did). The demo downloads very quickly, first its the launcher, then it downloads the actual demo once the launcher is complete. Once I got into the game the very first thing I noticed was the resemblance to the Uncharted series, I don’t know if Joel’s animations are brand new or if he’s using the one Naughty Dog used for Drake but they both look like they share the same ones, or at the very least they share some. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, the animations from Uncharted are very good. Luckily for us though that appears to be the only thing both game share in common.

The demo’s setting was a pretty dark and moody one, it reminded me of some areas in Fallout 3. You can clearly tell that shit has went down in the area, buildings collapsed, gaping holes all over the place, nature slowly but surely reclaiming the area. It’s very beautiful. Unlike Uncharted, this is more or less a stealth game. See, supplies are limited, there is no regenerating health, plus there is an enemy known as Clickers(more on them a bit later) who can kill you in one hit. Another thing that is also interesting is that ammo is very scarce so you’ll want to be very careful with it, also you must take into consideration the sound’s the gun makes as well because it WILL alert other enemies. This is obviously out of Naughty Dog’s comfort zone and even if the game doesn’t sound appealing to you(I recommend you give it a try though, ND is unarguably one of the best developers of this generation), at the very least you got to give them credit for trying something they’ve never done before.

For you newbies the game also has an option that lets Joel see through walls when standing still to help you out, don’t fret though you hardcore gamers, this option can be turned off completely, though if you plan on not using it I recommend you play with some really good headphones. The demo was fun and definitely made me a bit excited for the game, the problem with it though was that it was far too short. It can be completed in like what, 15 minutes? The Clicker’s also disappointed me. You only meet two in the demo and one is handled through QTE(seriously, fuck the person who thought of QTE, laziest mechanic in gaming), you only get to handle one of them your way. One thing I really like about the Clickers though is that they’re blind so they won’t be able to see you, the way they find you is by listening, so to distract them you throw bricks and bottles around to divert their attention somewhere else(this is possible with all the enemies). There wasn’t much to fight in the demo unfortunately, as a matter a fact, there were only like 8 enemies. It’s a demo though so whatever. All I’m saying is that if you plan on buying/renting GoW:A only for the demo don’t even bother, if you do that, buy it for God of War, not the demo or else you’ll feel disappointed.

The Last of Us releases June 13, 2013 in the US, so be sure to check it out if you’re interested.

Kat & Emmet Free for PSAL:BR

Characters-playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-31999546-1141-593

Kat and Emmet have finally been released for PlayStation All- Stars Battle Royale. They’ll be free for their first two weeks of release, after that they’ll each be $5(quite a hefty price for just one character if you ask me.)  As a huge Gravity Rush fan I immediately picked Kat, and she stays very true to her game. she spends a lot of time floating and kicking just as you’d expect(also has Dusty as well, which for those of you who don’t know, is Kat’s source of power.) I haven’t played Starhawk, but Emmet is also quite enjoyable as well, he’s able to alternate between 3 different weapons, a rifle(his default), a shotgun, and some king of rocket launcher. The shotgun and rocket launcher do have ammo though so you’ll have to resupply them once you run out of bullets; plus he even has a turret!

There is also a new stage as well, Fearless. Which combines Heavenly Sword & Wipeout. While it cost $2 to play offline, you can don’t have to pay a cent to play it online which is a pretty neat feature and I hope all future stages are like that as well. New Minions have also been released, if you’re into that stuff.

Supposedly there’s supposed to be an announcment of future DLC in March but I don’t know if that’s still the case Since Sony has let go of Superbot, and let Santa Monica work on DLC instead.

Sly Cooper 4 Thieves in Time Demo Impression

sly_cooper_thieves_in_time_01

First off let me start by saying I’ve never played the other 3 Sly Cooper games, its not that they looked boring, I just never got around to buying it. Though after playing the demo for the 4th installment in the franchise I think its time to fix that. As I’m sure you know by know Sly Cooper is a platformer with a light touch of stealth. The demo starts off with a introduction of our cast, and what they’ve been up to since Sly 3. Sly’s segment was all about stealth, if you get detected you must restart from the last checkpoint, this part of the demo was my favorite(though it was all great). Bently, the brains of the team was about destroying obstacles with his bombs that he carries in his wheel chair. He also has a neat mini game when he begins to hack a computer, it plays pretty much like a top down shooter, nothing special about it besides it being pretty fun. Lastly, there was Murray who is the bronze of the group. He is all about beating the poop out of the enemies. Unlike Sly and Bently, Murray cannot pick pocket, instead he can lift enemies and objects. The demo ends with Carmelita, Sly’s love interest discovering Sly is up to his old tricks(She is also a playable character but unfortunately not in the demo), and chases off Sly. The gang then begins their getaway to the past using their van Back to the Future style.

After the demo Sly 4 and its HD collection is certainly on my radar, plus the game is only $40 and supports cross buy. You read that right, this game is also coming to the Vita. Sly Cooper 4 will release on Feburarey 5, 2013 in the US and March 29, 2013 in Europe.

Metal Gear Solid: Revengance Demo Impression

mgs

The Metal Gear Solid: Revengance demo was released yesterday for Xbox 360 & the PS3(and very late might I add) and if i had to describe it to you in one word it would be: Spectacular! But lets get its problems out the way first, shall we? For starters, I found parrying to be difficult at first, I didn’t know how to pull it off, but by the boss fight with the chainsaw dog at the end I got the hang of it. Trust me, you MUST learn how to parry or that dog is just a bitch(excuse the pun), it killed me twice before i “got it”. But the more annoying problem was blade mode. Blade mode is when Raiden goes into his free cut mode. The left stick is used to control your direction while the right stick was used to control the direction of the blade. For me it was just painfully awkward to use, but I’m sure by the time the full game is released I’ll eventually get the hang of it, might even go play the demo a couple of times more as well. Also, I’m not too sure about the Xbox version since I played the demo on the PS3 but I did notice frame rate drops when I started cutting too many pieces, nothing too bad but its there.

Raiden controlled amazing and the action was just beyond awesome. It even has some nods to the series with the alert feature as well. Battling the Gekkos and cutting them up in a hundred pieces was beyond satisfying, the game even features weapons as well(the demo contained RPGs and grenades). If you have time i highly recommend downloading the demo and giving it a shot, parrying might be a bit weird but keep trying, it’ll become your best friend once you get the hang of it.
